    This is by design, for each Search Service Application, there can always be only one Preferred Search Center, inspite of updating using the above PowerShell script, there is a timer job that will update the Preferred Search under Setup My Sites in UPA to the updated Search Center URL.

    This will only work if the timer job that syncs the Search Center URLs is disabled, which is not recommended.

    Thanks for sharing. Notice though that you should NOT end your Search Site Url with a slash, so i.e. make it “https://yoursearchcenter.something.com/Pages”. Do remember to add the /Pages (or localized version of it) though!

    Also remember to do an IISReset /noforce on your SharePoint servers after running the PowerShell to have it applied.
